LATEST NEWS:

I have recently had one of those 'brick wall breakthrough' moments in my research. For years I have known very little about Ira Robertson other than that 'he was the black sheep of the family' according to my late mother. I was informed that a researcher had attached copies of two newspaper cuttings on a family history website which gave some details about him being murdered by his wife. In the subsequent court case the charge was reduced to manslaughter. I then found and purchased Frontier Justice a book by Ged Baldwin who had been Ira's wife's lawyer during the trial. A copy of the chapter from the book is attached to Ira Robertson and can found under 'Media' and 'Files' or by selecting Ira Robertson from 'People'.

I have added copies of letters mostly received by my Granny Harper (Elsie Eddie) which can be found under 'Media' and 'Files'. I am grateful to Moira Reid for not only sending these but also typing transcripts which helps with the ones more difficult to read. Some of the letters highlight my lack of knowledge about James Eddie's (b 1881) family.

Another file which I have added has a link to a radio interview with George Eddie (Dod or Sir George) from 1971. My thanks to Steve Hutcheon for finding this. Great uncle Dod was certainly a very able person.

Now for perhaps my biggest surprise while researching my family history - go to 'Media' and 'Files' and look at the file 'Jimmy Begg's bairns' and hopefully you will understand what has happened!

I have named this site ‘Harpers and Wilsons’ in memory of my father, Willie Harper, and mother, Janet Wilson. They both belonged to and remained in the North East of Scotland and our families can be traced back over many generations in this area. Names in the tree include relations of myself, Alan Harper (webmaster), and my wife, Jane Mitchell.

I would like to acknowledge the research of Bruce Auckland and the help of many especially my mother Janet Wilson.

I realise that there are some issues with my data and I will try to resolve these as I get more experienced with using Tribal Pages. This is where you might be able to help so please don't hold back. Some of the locations are in the wrong place when you view them in 'Maps'. Some of the old names, including shires such as Banffshire, are not recognised. Watch this space for updates!

If you are able to make any corrections or additions to my records please contact me.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
